Mr. Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how the number of hospitals beds per 1,000 population in the North-West compares with the national average in the various categories of bed.

In all categories the total number of available beds per 1,000 population in the Mersey and North Western Regions, generally compares favourably with the average for England with exception of the following:
