asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the percentage increase in the consumption of liquid milk between March 1973 and March 1974; and what has been the percentage decrease in the production of milk during the same period.

In the year ended 31st March 1974 sales of milk for liquid consumption totalled 1,656 million gallons. This was an increase of approximately 1.3 per cent. compared with the previous year. Sales of all milk under the milk marketing schemes in the year ended 31st March 1974 were 2,929 million gallons, i.e. approximately 0.5 per cent. less than in the previous year.
