HC Deb 22 May 1974 vol 874 cc188-9W
Mr. Monro

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress is being made towards implementing the pay award to Scottish teachers by the Scottish Teachers' Salaries Committee in March; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. William Ross

The agreement reached in the Scottish Teachers' Salaries Committee for a salaries revision to take effect from 1st April 1974 was approved by the Pay Board on 10th May, subject to further examination of certain minor restructuring proposals. A meeting of the Salaries Committee is being held on 29th May for this purpose.

With the Pay Board's consent the Joint Secretaries of the Salaries Committee wrote to education authorities on 8th May recommending them to make an interim payment as soon as possible of the minimum increase which every teacher would receive under the salaries agreement, i.e. £141 per annum.
