Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many gallons of water per year are pumped out of the Rivers Dee, Wye and Severn, respectively, outside the borders of Wales, for use outside Wales.

Mr. Denis Howell

While no precise figures are available, it is estimated that total quantities of 34,000 million, 2,400 million and 30,200 million gallons per year are abstracted from the Rivers Dee, Wye and Severn, respectively, outside the borders of Wales, for the purpose of public water supply outside Wales.
