HC Deb 22 May 1974 vol 874 c168W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will set up a standing advisory committee or working party to advise his Department on matters relating to the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference, in view of the range of trade and industrial interests within the United Kingdom which may be affected by decisions arising from the conference.

Mr. Ennals

My Department is in close touch, either directly or through other Government Departments, with industrial, commercial, fishing and other interests which will be affected by the conference. I am satisfied that a standing committee is not necessary for this purpose. As my hon. Friend is aware, a consultative conference was held on 15th May, and I am considering holding a further conference after the Law of the Sea Conference at Caracas.
