HC Deb 22 May 1974 vol 874 cc190-1W
Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will now introduce legislation to amend the statutory definition of "Invalid Carriage" so that it will read: "Invalid Carriage means a vehicle, whether mechanically propelled or not, owned or issued and driven by a person to whom a badge under Section 21 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 has been issued and this term shall include such vehicles carrying such persons as passengers and displaying the badge".

Mr. Alfred Morris

The term "invalid carriage" occurs in a number of statutes most of which are not my right hon. Friend's responsibility. In this case I assume the hon. Member to be referring to the definition in Section 20(2) of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and not to that in the Health Services and Public Health Act 1968. The former would be the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment, and I am informed that he will shortly be writing to the hon. Member about the definition in this particular section.
