§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Industry what has been the capital expenditure of the Post Office on telecommunications in each of the past 10 years, the estimated expenditure in the current year and so far as details are available the future programme.

For later years the most recent available information is contained in the White Paper on Public Expenditure to 1977–78 (Cmnd 5519), as modified in consequence of the general reduction imposed on 17th December 1973 by the Chancellor.138W sis on contacts with the offender's home area and a simplified process of allocating offenders to establishments; and a new form of non-custodial supervisory sentence.
I welcome the council's broad approach, and in the coming months I shall be giving close consideration to its detailed proposals, in consultation with the prison and the probation and after-care services and' with a number of organisations known to have a strong interest in this field. I shall also be glad to take account of comments from other quarters.
