§ Mr. George Rodgersasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will take steps to divert resources to provide additional school buildings for the mentally handicapped in areas of acute stress.
§ Mr. ArmstrongResources for special school buildings are already allocated to local education authorities in relation not to population but to the extent of need, as judged by the Department from year to year in response to authorities' submissions for buliding programmes. Apart from replacements, some 3,300 new school places for ESN (Severe) children have been authorised to start in the last three years; and in the 1973–74 design list the Department gave highest priority to the provision of accommodation for these children.
