HC Deb 20 May 1974 vol 874 cc59-60W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has for the extension of the M53 and its link-up with the M56 to the M6; and when further work is likely to take place.

Mr. Carmichael

A scheme is in preparation for the extension of M53 from Hooton to Lea-by-Back ford. Its timing is dependent on its priority within the overall road programme and the future availability of funds. Meanwhile orders have been published for the western extension of M56 from Haps ford to Lea-by-Back ford and the Ellesmere Port Motorway Extension (M531) to Hoole. Further progress with these two schemes will depend on the outcome of the public inquiries held concurrently last January and February.
