HC Deb 20 May 1974 vol 874 c12W
42. Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what action he proposes to take following the report of the Health Service Commissioner for Wales into the case of the late Mrs. Alice Higgs, of 43 Fearing Street, Newport, Monmouth shire.

Mr. John Morris

I can assure my hon. Friend that the report will be the subject of close and continuing study in order to deal with the errors at the hospital which were criticised by the commissioner. I have called for and received a first report from the South Glam organ Area Health Authority and have been informed that machinery has now been introduced for coordinated action between clinicians, nursing staff and lay staff in planning cardiac admissions and in safeguarding the position of patients whose operations have to be postponed because of emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances.

I have asked the authority to report further to me within three months.
