HC Deb 20 May 1974 vol 874 c57W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will instruct the Alkali Inspectorate to reduce the levels of cement dust fall-out which it regards as acceptable, in the light of technical advances in dust control.

Mr. Denis Howell

The Alkali and Clean Air Inspectorate always requires the use of the best practicable means of limiting emissions and is fully aware of technical advances in dust control. Since 1958 emissions from cement works have been reduced by 64 per cent. despite a 60 per cent. increase in production.
