HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 cc336-7W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many telephones have been installed free for those in need by the social work departments of local authorities in Scotland in each of the last three years, respectively;

(2) how many telephones have been installed free for persons in need in Scotland under the provisions of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons (Scotland) Act in each year, respectively, since the Act came into force.

Mr. William Ross

324 people had been assisted financially by local authorities to obtain or retain a telephone up to 31st December 1972, the latest date for which full information is available. The number of completely free installations is not known centrally, and separate figures for 1971 for persons assisted financially are not available.
