asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in Scotland are living in whole or in part on supplementary benefits; and, of these, how many are pensioners.

Mr. O'Malley

As at the end of January 1974—the latest date for which figures are available—about 450,000, including wives of recipients and dependent children. Of these, about 200,000 were pensioners.
