§ Mr. Roseasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps were taken to inform residents and industrial establishments of north Manchester of the emergency and accident units now available to them.
§ Dr. OwenOn the temporary closure of the accident and emergency department of the Manchester Victoria Memorial Jewish Hospital on 11th January 1973, announcements were made in three local newspapers on the availability of accident facilities in the area. Information was also given to, amongst others, the local health authorities, executive councils, trade unions, other local authorities, local Members of Parliament and local firms when the regional hospital board began consultations about permanent closure of the unit.
On 30th March 1974, following permanent closure of the unit at the Jewish Hospital, a further announcement appeared in the local Press mentioning the facilities at Ancoats and Crumpsall. 282W If my hon. Friend wishes any further action to be taken to inform people affected by the closure, I shall be happy to consider them.
§ Mr. Roseasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what hospital and health centre building is scheduled for north Manchester during the next five years.
§ Dr. OwenThe North-Western Regional Health Authority is currently reviewing its 1974–75 programme for hospital development in the light of the recent capital allocations. No health centre scheme is programmed to start in the north Manchester district this year. Planning allocations for the years 1975–76 to 1978–79 have not yet been made and the building programme for those years is therefore not yet scheduled.
