Sir David Renton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many former British subjects, who had previously emigrated, returned to the United Kingdom in 1973 and from which Commonwealth countries they came;

(2) how many United Kingdom residents emigrated during 1973, and to which countries they emigrated.

I regret that the information asked for is not available but it is estimated that during the 12 months October 1972 to September 1973 the numbers of British (United Kingdom) passport holders, excluding Ugandan Asians, who immigrated to the United Kingdom from countries outside the British Isles were as follows:
