asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will reallocate the 261 metre medium wave frequency or another suitable frequency to the BBC so that a service of local news capable of being received throughout the North-East can be broadcast.

The Committee on Broadcasting Coverage is expected to report in the summer. My right hon. Friend will then consider any relevant recommendations the committee may make.
