HC Deb 27 March 1974 vol 871 c159W
Sir Derek Walker-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the new construction of the National Health Service involves any changes in the methods of representations and negotiations by consultants in respect to pay and conditions.

Mrs. Castle

The remuneration of National Health Service hospital consultants is subject to review by the Doctors' and Dentists' Review Body, while other terms and conditions are negotiated on the Joint Negotiating Committee for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff. Consultants are represented through the Central Committee for Hospital Medical Services of the British Medical Association, and the Central Committee for Hospital Dental Services of the British Dental Association. Management interests are represented by the health departments. The reorganisation of the National Health Service does not require any change in this machinery.
