HC Deb 27 March 1974 vol 871 c132W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if there is any category of adult worker where the average weekly earnings are lower in Scotland than in all the other geographic areas of Great Britain at the latest available date.

Mr. Booth

Tables 76 to 79 of the New Earnings Survey 1973 results published in the December 1973 issue of the Department of EmploymentGazette gave regional estimates of average weekly earnings of full-time employees whose pay for the survey pay-period in April 1973 was not affected by absence for separate industry groups (Orders of the Standard Industrial Classification).

The figure for Scotland was lower than that for each of other areas for which figures were given in the following cases:

Manual men aged 21 and over: Paper, printing and publishing and Miscellaneous services.

Non-Manual men aged 21 and over: Vehicles:

Manual women aged 18 and over: Textiles and Distributive Trades.
