§ Mr. Sillarsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment when was the last increase in mileage allowance for members of local authorities and if he will make an upward adjustment to take account of increased petrol charges in recent months.
§ Mr. John SilkinThe last increase in motor mileage allowances for members of local authorities in England and Wales took effect on 28th February this year. I understand from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland that similar increases will shortly be brought into force in Scotland. These rates are revised from time to time in the light of changing costs.
