§ Mr. Wallasked the Lord President of the Council if he will list the date and amount of members' car allowance together with the price of one gallon of petrol at the appropriate dates in the last convenient period for which figures are available, and at the present time.

18th May 1961: The members' car allowance depending upon the age and horsepower of the vehicle, varied between 1½d. and 6d. per mile. The average price of petrol was 4s. 7½d. per gallon.18th December 1964: The members' fixed car allowance was 4½d. per mile. The average price of petrol was 5s. 3½d. per gallon.18th December 1969: Members' fixed car allowance was 6d. per mile. The average price of petrol was 6s. 6d. per gallon.3rd November 1970: Members' fixed rate was 1s. per mile. The average price of petrol was 6s. 7½d. per gallon.The current rate of members' allowance is 5p per mile, and the average price of petrol is 50p per gallon.
