Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) whether he will make the extension of the 12-mile fishing limit to the coastal fishing area between the mouth of the Tweed and Coquet Island one of the subjects of any renegotiation of the terms of British membership of the EEC;

(2) whether he will make a lengthening of the period in which British inshore fishing will be protected in selected areas by a 12-mile limit one of the subjects of any renegotiation of the terms of British membership of the EEC.

Such matters will be considered in the Government's continuing review of EEC policy.
