§ Mr. Redmondasked the Secretary of State for Energy what steps he is proposing to take in the interest of fuel conservation to raise the standards of thermal insulation laid down for factory roofs under the Thermal Insulation of Industrial Buildings Act 1957; and whether he also intends to take steps to extend these standards to include the walls as well as the roofs of factories.
§ Mr. VarleyI am considering what changes should be made in factory insulation standards but it will be some time before I shall be able to come to a conclusion.
§ Mr. Redmondasked the Secretary of State for Energy how many personnel serving in his Department are directly concerned with matters relating to fuel conservation, including the thermal insulation of both dwellings and factories, so far as concerns the entire structure of roofs and walls.
§ Mr. VarleyMost staff engaged on policy work are concerned to some extent with energy conservation issues, which are an important part of the responsibilities of my Department. My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for the Environment and for Scotland and Wales also have responsibilities for thermal insulation.
