asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether she will take immediate action designed to curb the practice by butchers of marking the price of meat per pound and then demanding a substantially higher price for the purchase of such meat upon dividing and weighing it.

If a shopper is likely to be misled by the practice mentioned by my hon. Friend, the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 provides penalties. This Act is currently being reviewed by the Director General of Fair Trading.
