HC Deb 18 March 1974 vol 870 c29W
Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what visits have been made by officials of his Department to firms which are making sealed recirculatory cooling systems in order that he may be made aware of the possible replacement of cooling towers by these systems with consequent benefit to the environment;

(2) what inquiries he has made from firms making sealed recirculatory cooling systems, in view of the possible replacement of cooling towers by these systems with consequent benefit to the environment.

Mr. Denis Howell

None. Officials of the Department are aware of the systems which are made much more expensive than the evaporative systems commonly in use. The development of these systems and their use in practice will be carefully watched and I am always ready to receive information either from the firms concerned or from the hon. Member.
