HC Deb 28 June 1974 vol 875 cc53-4W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what increase in unemployment he expects to result in the county of Clwyd from the reduction in demand for quarry products in North Wales; and if he will take steps designed to prevent further closures of quarries and to provide alternative employment for quarry men who have been made redundant.

Mr. John Morris

I am urgently considering representations which have been made to me about the problems of the quarrying industry in Clwyd and elsewhere in North Wales. I am aware that the Craig Lelo quarry, near Corwen, has been closed recently, with a loss of 46 jobs, but I understand that many of the workers involved have been offered alternative employment at other plants in Clwyd owned by the company concerned.
