HC Deb 27 June 1974 vol 875 cc510-1W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the number of students attending courses at each of the three Service musical schools in 1973 and in 1958; and what would be the anticipated savings if the three schools were amalgamated.

Mr. William Rodgers

The following table lists the number of students attending courses at each of the three Services musical schools:

1958 1973
Royal Marine School of Music 146* 104
Royal Military School of Music 224 283
RAF HQ Music Services 90 23
*Estimate

An examination in 1968 concluded that integration of Service training of musicians offered no significant advantages. No estimate has been made whether amalgamation of the three schools would produce savings.
