asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated number of taxpayers with total annual incomes in excess of£10,000 per annum and each subsequent£1,000 up to£20,000 treating married couples as one taxpayer.

I regret that estimates are not available for the current year in the precise form requested. For ranges of total net income—before tax—of£10,000 or more, the estimated information so far as is available is as follows:
