HC Deb 27 June 1974 vol 875 c498W
32. Mr. Charles Morrison

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he proposes to safeguard British honey production, given the current high cost of sugar for bees.

Mr. Buchan

I accept that any increase in the price of sugar will to some extent affect the cost of producing honey. However only 1 per cent. of our beekeepers are commercial honey producers, and British honey commands a substantial price premium over imported honey. I see no immediate cause for concern.
