§ 55. Mr. Straussasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress has been made in compensating subsidised theatres for irrecoverable losses they have sustained through the imposition of VAT by means of increasing the overall Arts Council grant so as to permit the council to use its discretion to increase particular subsidies.
§ Mr. Hugh JenkinsI am now able to say that, subject to the approval of Parliament, an addition of £750,000 will be made to the Arts Council's grant in aid for 1974–75, to take account of VAT paid in 1973–74 by the council's clients.
