HC Deb 25 June 1974 vol 875 cc398-9W
57. Mr. Arnold Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total number of educational psychologists now employed by local education authorities in England; what is his estimate of the shortfall in this establishment; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Armstrong

In December 1972 there were 650 educational psychologists, including 90 part-timers, employed by local education authorities in England. My right hon. Friend is not committed to achieve a particular ratio of children to professional staff, but looks for a continued improvement in this and other aspects of the school psychological service.
