HC Deb 25 June 1974 vol 875 c444k W
Mr. Woof

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many men and women over the age of 80 years living in the region containing Blaydon constituency have been granted pensions under the National Insurance (Old Persons' and Widows' Pensions) Act.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

I regret that this information is not available but in November 1973 old persons' pensions under the National Insurance (Old Persons' and Widows' Pensions and Attendance Allowance) Act 1970 and the National Insurance Act 1971 were in payment to some 16,000 men and 91,000 women over 80 throughout the country. It is not possible to say how many of those were awarded under the 1970 Act.
