§ Mr. Thorpe
asked the Secretary of State for Science and Education, in the light of the raising of the school leaving age, if he is now in a position to announce his policy on the age limit for concessionary fares for school children.
§ Mr. Armstrong
Government policy on concessionary fares is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. There is no connection between the school leaving 403W age and the fares charged by transport undertakings. Local education authorities have power to assist any pupil with reasonable travelling expenses to and from school.
