HL Deb 24 June 1974 vol 352 cc1294-6WA
EARL AMHERST

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware that the company National Car Parks Limited, who have a near monopoly of covered car parks in the London area are circularising their customers, urging them to enter into five year contracts which are subject to a 12½ per cent. increase in rates per annum; and if so, what view they take of what appears to be a totally inflationary project.

LORD JACQUES

National Car Parks Limited have supplied the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection with details of their long-term parking agreement. Any increases in the company's charges including proposed annual increases under a long-term agreement would be for pre-notification each time by the company to the Price Commission, and would be judged against the provisions of the Price Code, which is one of the Government's principal instruments for the restraint of inflation.

House adjourned at twenty minutes before eleven o'clock.
