HC Deb 21 June 1974 vol 875 cc280-1W
Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department issues guidelines on the resources to be devoted to public transport to be followed by county councils in the preparation of their transport plans and programmes, made at his Department's instigation.

Mr. Carmichael

My Department's regional offices are ready to give county councils broad indications of the levels of expenditure which seem likely, in present economic and financial circumstances, to be acceptable for transport supplementary grant in 1975–76. It is for each council to decide on the resources to be devoted to public transport in the light of this advice and of the needs of its county.
