asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the percentage fall in the value of the pound since May 1968.

It is estimated that between May 1968 and April 1974, the latest date for which statistics are available, the internal purchasing power of the pound fell by 381 per cent. This estimate is based on the change in the General Index of Retail Prices.
