HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 cc151-2W
Sir John Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will obtain and publish information available as to the amount of waste paper collected each year by Scottish local authorities, and as to the percentage of the total amount of waste paper available which is in fact collected.

Mr. William Ross

A survey showed that, in 1972, 85 Scottish local authorities collected 45,725 tons of paper and cardboard. I have no information as to the amount which might be available for collection, but local authorities are encouraged to collect waste paper if they consider that this is worth while. I do not consider that the collection of the information on an annual basis is justifiable.
