HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 c195W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to improve the state of the East Lancashire Road and access points to it; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carmichael

The East Lancashire road—A580—is already of a high standard following progressive improvements over the past ten years. Subject to the availability of funds, a major improvement of the junction with A6 and A666 at Irlamso 'th' Height, Swinton is planned, possibly starting next financial year.

The opening of the section of the motorway M62 between the M6 at Risley and the M63 at Worsley will shortly provide some relief to the East Lancashire road.
