Mr. Trotter

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated number of employees earning (a) £2,000 a year or more in 1948, (b) £2,000 a year or more in the current year and (c) £6,000 a year or more in the current year.

Dr. Gilbert

The information requested by the hon. Member is as follows:

  1. (a) the number for 1948–49 is not precisely known but is estimated at between 100,000 and 150,000;
  2. (b) about 10 million;
  3. (c) about 300,000.

Mr. Trotter

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the number of forms P11D received by the Inland Revenue for the year 1972–73 which showed a nil return.
