HC Deb 14 June 1974 vol 874 cc663-4W
Dr. M. S. Miller

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make arrangements for the Minister of Sport to convey the support of the House to the Scottish football team in respect of the forthcoming World Cup competition; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. William Ross

I am sure that all Members of the House will wish to join in expressing support for the Scottish football team taking part in the World Cup competition.

My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State in his capacity as the Minister responsible for sport in Scotland sent the team, on my behalf, a message of good wishes before they left Scotland, and he will be attending the match against Zaire. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister expects to attend the match against Brazil, and I propose to be present at the match against Yugoslavia. 1 understand also that my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Department of the Environment, who has responsibility for sport, intends to be present at the matches with Zaire and Brazil.
