§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will now recommend the establishment of a Royal Commission to review and report on the level of wages paid by British-owned firms to their locally recruited employees in former British colonies and in particular to compare such wages with those being paid by British-owned firms in the Republic of South Africa.
§ Mr. ShoreNo. The Fifth Report of the Expenditure Committee on the wages and conditions of African workers employed by British firms in South Africa recognised that South Africa was a special case. I agree with this view.
