asked the Secretary of State for Employment what consultations his Department is having with offshore oil operators about facilities for trade union recruitment, and trade union recognition.

My Department's manpower advisers have had a series of discussions with drilling contractors operating on the oil rigs about union recognition and related issues. These talks are continuing. I understand that some of the companies have already indicated their willingness to discuss these matters with the unions involved.
