HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 cc153-4W
Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if any land is to be accepted in lieu of estate duty.

Dr. Gilbert

Yes. I am glad to announce that agreement has been reached on acceptance of Wickham Manor Farm and Mill Farm, Winchelsea, Sussex, for transfer to the National Trust. The cost to the National Land Fund will be £111,572. The Government and the National Trust have agreed as a condition of transfer that the entire property transferred to the Trust should be left alienable for the time being, on the understanding that the land not required for the proposed new road will in due course be declared inalienable and preserved for public enjoyment.
