§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he will state the total area of defined derelict land in each district in Wales, and for the whole of Wales.
§ Mr. John MorrisPresent indications are that the total area of derelict land in Wales amounts to some 27,000 acres. A detailed mapping survey has been carried out in order to arrive at an accurate figure, and the first results of this survey are expected to be available shortly. I must await the results of this survey before giving acreages in each district.

§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Wales how many schemes have been submitted to date by local authorities in Wales for derelict land clearance and how many have been approved.
§ Mr. John MorrisIn January of this year local authorities were asked to submit a list of schemes covering a five-year period, from which a selection could be made. Out of the 479 schemes submitted I have initially approved, in principle, 34 for action over a three-year period. The expenditure on them will be of the order of £8 million. The programme will, of course, be reviewed annually.
