HC Deb 29 July 1974 vol 878 cc69-70W
Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science by what means the post of Chairman of the University Grants Committee was advertised; and what are the qualifications of the new chairman, particularly with regard to his experience with scientific information retrieval services; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Prentice

The post of Chairman of the University Grants Committee is not advertised: the appointment is made by the Prime Minister of the day. The appointment of the present Chairman, Sir Frederick Dainton, was announced in March 1973, and I am in no position to say which of his many qualifications were taken into account.
