Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in the OFFICIAL REPORT those courses he has decided to regard as part-time courses of further education under Regulation 10(1)(d) of the Awards (First Degree etc. Courses) Regulations 1971 and which render those who complete them ineligible for first degree mandatory awards.

The part-time courses concerned are those which occupy more than 40 hours and which fall into one of the following three categories:

  1. (a) courses of postgraduate or post-diploma instruction:
  2. (b) courses of study in preparation for a degree, Higher National Certificate, a Diploma in Management Studies, or a final professional examination of a standard above that for the Ordinary National Certificate or General Certificate of Education (advanced level):
  3. (c) any comparable courses outside the United Kingdom.
