HC Deb 23 July 1974 vol 877 c458W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many letters he has received in connection with his recently announced decision to place English above Welsh on bilingual signposts in Wales; and, of these letters, how many were in support of his decision and how many in disagreement with his decision.

Mr. John Morris

84 in all, of which 77 opposed my decision, one supported it and six gave no clear indication of whether they were for or against. Many of the writers appeared to be unaware that my decision related to regulatory, warning and directional signs—but not to destination and other informatory signs.
