HC Deb 18 July 1974 vol 877 c269W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when the specific decision to erect a bilingual traffic direction sign on a trunk road at Llanwrda, Carmarthen-shire, was taken; by whom; and on what priority basis such bilingual signs are to be introduced.

Mr. John Morris

The decision to proceed with the erection of signs at key junctions so as to indicate routes for holiday traffic proceeding to and from the resorts of South-West Wales followed my statement to the House on 10th June. In accordance with this, all contracts for new signs, including the replacement of worn and damaged signs, on trunk roads will provide for the signs to be in bilingual form; and a programme for the gradual replacement of existing signs will also be put in hand.

The sign in question is one of a number erected by Dyfed County Council as agent for my Department.
