§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will state the number of divers killed at work in each of the last four years in British coastal waters or in British-controlled marine oilfields; whether he will set up an inquiry into the adequacy of the present safety regulations; and what action he proposes to take following the criticism recently expressed by the coroner at the inquest into the death of Mr. William Norris.
§ Mr. Strang,pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 12th July 1974], gave the following information:
are for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy proposes to lay before the House shortly diving regulations to be 143W made under the Mineral Workings (Offshore Installations) Act. I am aware of the views expressed at the recent inquest into the death of Mr. William Norris; the new regulations will require divers to undergo stringent medical examinations.
