asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she proposes to introduce a special social security benefit for single-parent families as recommended in the report of the committee on one-parent families.

As I said in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Walsall, South (Mr. George) on 2nd July, the Government accept in principle that additional support should be provided for one-parent families. We shall consider the appropriate form and scale of that provision in relation to our proposed system of family endowment as it is developed.
