§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of Slate for Defence whether he will seek to obtain a report on the studies being conducted by Professor Erickson of Edinburgh University in the protection of offshore installations; and whether he will make a statement on his policy on this matter.
§ Mr. JuddProfessor Erickson has sent me a paper summarising the results of research work, conducted under the auspices of the Northern (Maritime) Offshore Resources Study (NORS), on some security and defence aspects of the exploitation of the north-west European continental shelf. We attach great importance to this subject and Professor Erickson has very kindly accepted an invitation to discuss his paper at a seminar which will be held on 23rd July 1974 in the Ministry of Defence. I am grateful that the hon. Member and others interested, including those from this House, academic circles, industry and the seafaring unions have also agreed to attend. Their views will be of great help in the formulation of policy.
